Inspirational Projects

Bear is Driving: My boyfriend Erik plays bass in this band. They are technically driven, all-instrumental and influenced by metal, prog and math rock. (Also, certain of my readers have belived that I am responsible for Erik's bandmates writings, but PLEASE NOTE that I am NOT!)

Pinhole Photography by Bethany DeForest Surreal, magificently saturated color photos from a pinhole. The artist lives in the Netherlands and creates her own miniature worlds of candy and fish.

Cyclecide: These folks "drink a lot of beer, build altered bikes, and make pedal powered carnival rides." If you're ever in San Francisco, look for the sign that says "Fun first, safety third."

The Bubble Project To combat excessive advertising, one New Yorker pasted word bubble stickers on billboards all around the city. Passers-by filled in the bubbles, and the somewhat subversive results were photographed.

Maakies PURE BRILLIANCE. A demented and skillfully drawn comic about a drunken crow and his pal Uncle Gabby.

Lost America: "Night Photography of the American Roadside West."
